Cryolite is a crystal white powder showing normally hoary, light yellow or light red color, a little soluble in water( its solution is acid), apt to wet by water absorption, 2.95-3 in density, 2-3 inhardness and about 1000℃ for melting point.

It is mainly used as flux in Al melting, as pesticide in crops ,as  fused catalyst in porcelain enamel glaze, as opalized agent in opal glass making,as flux in Al alloy casting, as abrasive filler in resin and rubber, as electrolyte in production of ferroalloy boiling steel,as ingredient in abrasion wheel,etc...
